LCBO raises funds for Shine

Starting April 1st 2018, the public can help support the Shine Foundation by making a donation at any of the more than 660 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for Shine will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until April 28th.

Shine is a national Canadian charity impacting the lives of young people living with severe physical disabilities through customized Shine Experiences. Shine programs allow youth to experience freedom from their daily regimens and challenges by having their experiences transformed into reality resulting in an increased sense of empowerment, independence, and confidence that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.  Since its inception in 1987, Shine has changed the lives of more than 8,500 recipients across Canada and has coordinated 62 Shine DreamLifts taking large groups of youth to a Disney theme park; 39 of those DreamLifts departing from Ontario.

“Thank you LCBO staff and generous customers. Your support will give Shine recipients the chance to write a brighter future story for themselves. Because of you, more future-boosting experiences will be possible for young people across Ontario.” – Nancy Sutherland, CEO of the Shine Foundation.

“Through the Giving Back In Our Community fundraising program, LCBO has a proud history of community involvement and fundraising partnerships,” said Jennifer Bell, LCBO Executive Director Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility.  “Thanks to the generosity of LCBO customers and the dedicated support of our staff, funds raised this month for Shine Foundation will help support special programs for young people and their families in communities all across Ontario.”

The Shine Foundation is one of 27 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2018. In fiscal 2016 -17, LCBO raised a total of more than $13.3 million for charities through in-store fundraising, special programs and initiatives. In addition, LCBO’s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $2.06 billion in fiscal year 2016-17 ending March 31, 2017, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.

The Shine Foundation thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store from April 1st- April 28th.
