The Shine Foundation is delighted to announce that Sarah Lashbrook of Sudbury, ON, has been selected as the recipient of the 2018 Wayne C. Dunn Spirit of Service Award in recognition of her contributions to help fulfill Shine Experiences for young people across Canada living with severe physical disabilities.
Sarah Lashbrook is one of Shine's most notable alumnae. Her dream to visit the set of Roseanne was fulfilled in 1997, after a life-altering accident in her youth. When asked about her dream coming true, she maintains to this day: “the doctors saved my life, but Shine saved my soul.”
One year later, she began volunteering with the Shine Foundation and she has supported Shine ever since, impacting the lives of hundreds of Shine recipients across Canada.
- Sarah was an essential volunteer leader in Shine DreamLift Sudbury, an event that had an immense impact on young people in the Greater Sudbury area.
- She served on the Volunteer Chapter Executive Committee from 2004-2008.
- Since 2013, she has hosted third-party events in support of Shine, raising funds to support Shine Programs across Canada.
- She volunteers at various Shine signature events and is a community leader supporting Shine.
Sarah’s dream had an immense impact on her life and helped her find her calling: she went on to become a professional writer, published author, and TV personality. Throughout her work in supporting Shine, Sarah focuses on the impact her work has on Shine recipients. She wants all youth to feel empowered and confident and finds great joy in helping make this happen.
Shine is proud to award Sarah Lashbrook as the newest recipient of the Shine Spirit of Service Award, and we extend our sincere gratitude to her for her continued commitment to our mission and the young people we serve.
